nutrition vitamin store

Just exactly how bad is Vitamin A for a pregnant woman to take?
I just found out I’m pregnant, and I was looking online to see what foods I should eat more of, and what foods I should stay away from. I found several sites that said I should not eat anything with vitamin A in it because Vitamin A can harm the baby and give it certain birth defects. The problem is, I’m looking at nutrition facts as I’m going through the store, and almost everything has some amount of vitamin A in it! What am I supposed to do? How bad is this for the baby?
Thanks,
-justfoundout
As even prenatal vitamins contain Vitamin A, you really can’t avoid it at all. After all, Vitamin A is vey importanat for your baby’s development: cell growth; eye, heart, limb, and ear development; healthy skin and mucous membranes; infection resistance; bone growth; and fat metabolism.
If you take a LARGE amount of Vitamin A (well over the recommended daily intake) you do risk birth defects and liver toxicity. When in doubt, ask your doctor about what limitations (if any) you should practice while pregnant.
